Your Professional Fitness Portfolio Shoot

    The following questionnaire will assist you in putting together the necessary information required for your very first professional portfolio shoot. We have prepared a variety of questions and compiled everything you need to know to prepare you for your professional photoshoot.

    The questionnaire will take approximately 3-8 minutes to complete. You will be asked to upload still photographs of your garments for your photoshoot. Please ensure that you have prepared your garments and taken your photographs prior to beginning the questionnaire.

    Creating your ideal movement portfolio

    The next selection of questions will help us gain an understanding of your vision for your photoshoot.

    Before you start choosing your hero shots for your shoot, ask yourself, “What is your vision for this photo shoot?” Are you going for a strong look? or Something a little more passive? or is it going to show the fun / playful side of you personality?

    We have put together a variety of images categories to help guide you through your first professional portfolio shoot. This will assist you in getting you noticed and hopefully booked for future work. Ultimately, it’s the client who has the final say on who is booked, however, having the right imagery in your look-book is the first step in getting hired for the job.

    Selecting your garments

    You will need a variety of garments for your photoshoot, allowing multiple options to choose from. Vibrant colours translate well on camera, keep this in mind when selecting your garments.

    Your photographer or an AEFM representative may contact you to provide feedback and recommendations to help you get the most out of your shoot.

    We have put together the following guidelines to ensure that your shoot is as successful as it can possibly be. Your portfolio should effectively demonstrate your versatility as a model. A professional portfolio must consist of imagery that is the same quality and standard as that featuring the world’s leading athletic brands advertising campaigns, such as Nike, Under Armour, ASICS, Reebok and Adidas, etc.

    Please ensure that you follow these guidelines carefully

    Tips

    • Make sure you get plenty of rest before your shoot
    • It's imperative you arrive at a minimum of 15-minutes before your shoot time.

    Practice Posing

    • When it comes down to the day of your shoot, it's so important that you've practised your poses in front of a mirror. Practice your transitions between poses. Also, focus on different facial expressions, preparation is key to a successful shoot.

    Clothing

    • Bring a minimum of 6 x sets of fitness apparel.
    • Clothing must be vibrant and colourful.
    • Please stay away from blacks and whites
    • Gym/sports singlets, sports t-shirts, (short/long) compression top, hoodies (with and without zips).
    • All clothing items are to be washed and ironed and are to be hung on clothes hangers.
    • Bring multiple pairs of shoes, ensure they are clean (gym, lifting, running, ballet, dance and sports shoes).

    Hydration

    • Bring water and or a sports drink to the shoot. Keep well hydrated throughout the shoot. In between each set have a small sip of water. In the event you feel a little hyperglycemic, have a few lollies or a piece of fruit to bring your sugar levels up.

    Hair and Grooming

    • Ensure your haircut is fresh and your teeth are clean.
    • Clipper any excess body hair two days before the shoot.
    • If you shave your body, shave three days in advance.
    • Bring along a small bottle of coconut oil, this is great for bringing the skin to life on camera. Small tip.
    • Clean, neat and clean nails

    Navigation

    • Add the address to Google Maps at roughly the same time you are due to travel to your shoot. This will give you a good indication of your travel time. From Monday to Saturday add another 15 to 20 minutes to your trip in case there are any unexpected delays, particularly if you are travelling during working hours.
    • Make sure you have coins for the parking meter.

    AEFM International will not be responsible for delays or cancellation to your shoot if you are late or unprepared on the day.

    • Apparel - including crop tops, yoga pants/leggings, sports bras, skirts, bomber jackets, matching shoes, high top athletic shoes i.e Reebok / Nike
    • All clothing items are to be washed and ironed and are to be hung on clothes hangers.
    • Bring multiple pairs of shoes, ensure they are clean (gym, lifting, running, ballet, dance and sports shoes).

    Hydration

    Hair/ Nails/ Grooming

    • Ensure your teeth are clean.
    • Hair should be kept straight or natural wavy/curly
    • Make-up should be kept light and natural.
    • Touch up your roots. If you dye your hair, touching up your regrowth three days before your photoshoot
    • Bring hair spray
    • No unnatural eye or lip colouring. Light contour and highlighting are ideal.
    • No fake eyelashes
    • Get a trim. neat, healthy hair is youthful and vibrant
    • Bring one or two hair ties
    • Bring along a small bottle of coconut oil, this is great for bringing the exposed skin to life on camera.
    • Clean and natural nails are preferred.
    • Spray tanning or tanning should be completed 2 to 3 days out from your shoot. This will give the tan time to settle and will look more natural. Speak to a chemist or pharmacy to advise you on a suitable product for your skin type.
